MACROFUNGI OF ROOSEVELT,
MONMOUTH COUNTY, NEW JERSEY
This list has been developed (since 1978) by R. E.
Tulloss with the help of Mary Tulloss and their children,
Mark, David, and Sarah. Nomenclatural and taxonomic
corrections are very welcome.
We are grateful to Daniel L. Lindner Czederpiltz and
Mark Banik (Dept. of Plant Pathology, Univ. of Wisconsin,
Madison) for positive identification of our Armillaria
species in mating tests and through DNA analysis, to the late Ray
Fatto (formerly of Somerville, New Jersey) for identification of
several species of Russula, to Jack D. Rogers
(Washington St. Univ.) for identification of taxa in the
Xylariaceae, to Kathie Hodge (Cornell) for help with Cordyceps
identification, and to Gene Varney for help with
discomycete identification.
We are also grateful to helpful and friendly members of the New Jersey Mycological Association that
particpated in a Roosevelt Foray (9 September 2001).
Want to see more pictures and more details about wild mushrooms of
the eastern US? See
< mushroomexpert.com
>. Want to no more about the genus Amanita and its
family (the Amanitaceae) check out the worldwide set of species at the Amanita
Studies website.
WARNING!
This is a list of tentatively
identified fungi. It
is in no way an identification guide and should never be
used as such. No one should ever ingest
wild mushrooms without having a positive identification
of the mushrooms from an experienced collector or
mycologist. It
is a good general policy that no mushroom should ever be
eaten raw.
Background tile: The Roosevelt
Public School kindergarten makes friends with a wheelbarrow full of Calvatia
gigantea (one fruiting body weighing over 22 pounds).
